Muslim leaders show concern on Fr. Sinnott’s health condition

DAVAO CITY—Muslim religious scholars here have expressed concern on the frail health conditions of kidnapped Columban priest Fr. Michael Sinnott.
The National Ulama Conference of the Philippines (NUCP) with the Philippine Council for Islam and Democracy (PCID) in a statement appealed to the captors to grant the safe, immediate and unconditional release of Sinnott.

Muslim scholars stressed that kidnapping is contrary to the teachings of Islam and Christianity as well as with other faiths who promote good deeds towards one’s neighbors.

They also called on the abductors to release Fr. Sinnott unharmed and to take into consideration his weak health condition.
Moreover, they also called on the people to actively promote peace-making and respectful dialogue in the society.

“We likewise call on the members of the society to see the urgent need for sustained dialogue among its diverse members in light of this recurring incidence of abduction of civilians,” said in the statement furnished to CBCPNews.

They also called on the media to exercise vigilance against maligning the name of Islam by employing emotionally and politically charged terms such as Islamic militants and Muslim terrorists in reference to the priest’s abductors. (Mark S. Ventura)
